Got bags?

Got Bags?
"Got Bags?" steering wheel sticker from afstudio.design

Recently while stopped in traffic on the Golden Gate Bridge, my eyes strayed to the car next to me. The driver had taped a note to her steering wheel (which was easy to read from my car), reminding herself in no uncertain terms to "Bring the $%&^@ing grocery bags!" I laughed to myself, thinking of the many times I have experienced the frustration of getting to the check-out counter only to realize that I've forgotten my reusable shopping bags. And so was born an idea, which we here at afstudio would like to share with you-- steering wheel stickers to help you remember the bags!

Going from print to web may be easier than you think

Print to Web Illustration

Afstudio specializes in delivering editorial content via print or web depending on the client's audience. Lately, we've been talking with some clients about leveraging their existing print content and hosting it online. "It's easy!" I exclaim (with great enthusiasm) from a project planning standpoint. Creating and editing content for a print magazine project is half the battle, making decisions for photography and illustration gets you further still. After that, getting everything online is easier than you might think.

Here's how we were able to help one of our clients get double the value of their print magazine content by moving it online.

Parents Magazine print spread

Trilogy Integrated Resources creates web sites for large government agencies and non-profits.

They needed to create an online parenting guide from an existing magazine and had three weeks to do the job. They had in-house web capabilities, but needed the eye of a seasoned magazine designer to present the magazine online. Because of the tight deadline, they needed someone who could arrive at a solution quickly and take the ball and run with it.

In a week we had an approved design for the job which left two weeks for web-production of the complete contents of the magazine. The files were provided to us in Quark Xpress and Photoshop, and we set up an automated workflow to export text and automatically re-size photos.

The project was a complete success and the client was pleased that we not only met our deadline, but were able to improve on the magazine's dated look for its new life online.
